Acid can negatively affect your teeth. A simple solution of baking soda and water can help protect your teeth from damage caused by exposure to vomit and other acidic substances.

When you throw up, the acids in your stomach leave their designated area and envelope your teeth. Stomach acid can wear at your teeth, especially if exposure is prolonged.

While brushing your teeth might be a natural reaction, brushing can spread the acid around your teeth, and the brush bristles may wear away the enamel more due to the enamel's weakened state.

Instead, treat your teeth with a simple solution before brushing. Mix about 1 teaspoon of baking soda with some water. Swish the mixture around your mouth and spit it out to help wash away the acid.

Once you've cleaned out the acid, wait about 30 minutes before brushing your teeth. We recommend waiting to brush even after you consume acidic food or drinks such as soda. This gives your teeth some time to recover.
